SAN MARZANO TOMATO - The Most Famous Italian Plum Tomato

Originating from the area around Naples, ( near Mount Vesuvius ) where the volcanic soil is very rich...San Marzano tomatoes are easily the most widely know of the plum tomatoes.  Prized by the Italians for making tomato sauce, this tomato tends to have a lower acidity and wonderful tomato flavor.  Very similar to the Roma plum tomato, the San Marzano tends to be more narrow and somewhat pointed on the end.  An indeterminate variety of tomato, San Marzano can grow in excess of 6 feet and tend to produce larger yields over a longer time.  San Marzano is an open pollinated heirloom variety, home growers can easily save theses seeds for future use.

Gourmet Chef's around the world seek out this plum tomato for it's less acidic, sweet yet complex flavor and delicate texture. We found growing them to be a real plus.  Easily some of the best tasting tomatoes that we have ever enjoyed. Great in a salad or just cut up on a plate with salt and pepper..... great flavor and texture.
